Self Assessment

Addition vs. multiplication

Suppose that the two layers of the figure weighted overlay: raster / vector model are not added but multiplied. What will happen to the resulting layer? Evaluate the following statement: "Cells with 0 in the input layer will have less impact because - opposed to addition – when using multiplication, values are transmitted to the resulting layer."

  1. + because + (i.e. first part of sentence correct; second part correct; logical link correct)
  2. +/+ (i.e. first part of sentence correct; second part correct; logical link wrong)
  3. +/- (i.e. first part of sentence correct; second part wrong; logical link wrong)
  4. -/+ (i.e. first part of sentence wrong; second part correct; logical link wrong)
  5. -/- (i.e. first part of sentence wrong; second part wrong; logical link wrong)

Weights machine

To consolidate your knowledge about weighted overlay you can now calculate the suitability value of certain pixels in the resulting map to the right. The yellow values from the map on the far right are sought. Insert the values into the fields and click "check". If you are untrained in mental arithmetic, take a sheet of paper to jot down your notes.
